THE 2023 COAST JUNIORS CHESS TOURNAMENT REPORT

The 2023 Coast Juniors Chess Tournament took place on 25th of March 2023 at Nyali Primary School, Mombasa. The tournament acted as a practice tournament to the kids which aimed to help the kids gauge themselves and know the rules of a tournament.

The tournament was organized by Lighthouse Chess Club in partnership  with Nyali Primary School with Samuel Ndumia as the tournament director. Other members of the organization team include, NA Jennifer Rehema, the Chief Arbiter assisted by John Ndichu and Charles Mwai.

The tournament attracted a total of 55 players from over 13 schools and 2 chess clubs. Due to the numbers the event was split into three different age grouped categories. Both boys and girls played together in each category. A total of 6 rounds were played under a time control of 25 minutes per player.

After the 6 rounds, medals were awarded to the top three boys and top three girls in all three categories.. All participants received a certificate of participation. The winners were as follows:
